The Falstad Center continues its annual tradition commemorating The
International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In coordination with
Sund college we invite everyone to join us for a commemorative march
and memorial service in the Falstad forest, followed by the screening
of the 1987 Norwegian movie “The Feldmann Case” at Festiviteten, Levanger.
The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is hosted by Falstad on
Wednesday 27. January, 2016, on the anniversary of the liberation of
Auschwitz concentration camp.
In 2005 the United Nations General Assembly designated the date for
international commemoration honouring the victims of the holocaust. In
2016 we will be focusing on the themes of flight and refuge, and The
International Holocaust Remembrance day will be the first in a series
of events tied to the tenth year anniversary of The Falstad Centre.
Students from Sund will participate in various
workshops based on the themes and the history of the Falstad prison
camp. During this time they will be able to share their reflections
with their fellow students on topics ranging from the Norwegian
Holocaust, Nazi ideologi, prisoner history, human rights and current
day issues. After the workshops there will be a torchlight procession
to the memorial site at the Falstad Forest. The day will conclude with
a student organized concert and photography exhibit at Festiviteten in
the city of Levanger, as well as a screening of the Norwegian movie “
The Feldmann Case”, detailing the attempted flight of the Jewish Feldmann family from Norway to Sweden in 1942.
The Falstad Centre welcomes everyone to the procession, commemoration
and evening program.
